So you or your guy has hit that magical age of 40… At the end of the day now and going forward, we suggest that your Health & Fitness routine become a bit more consistent. In fact, as you move over the 40 year hurdle, wellness is of utmost importance, and guys should now have their own health as a primary focus.

There are a few things which surface around or just past this age marker. The possibility of showing the full signs of diabetes become a bit more common around age 40 or just after.

Heart. Heart Disease comes to the fore around this age range as well. This can be as a result of the years of our lifestyle catching up to our bodies and giving us pay-back. Additionally stress and its effects if not controlled can impact our heart health negatively. These stressors may be as a result of work, personal or even due to a lack of sleep. Consider relaxation techniques – and other ways to managing stress. Any other bad habits which may now cause our heart to work harder we have to also control or reduce significantly.

Diet. Although some of us have gotten away with a poor diet until now, and some men will continue into the dietary habits that are not ideal, there are some men at this age who will consider what they put into their bodies. Let us not struggle to figure it out… Some of what is recommended include foods which are high in lycopene and this aids in prostate health as well.

Additionally other recommended foods include those which are high in Omega-3 fatty acids, such as from those cold water fish such as salmon and sardines or even from vegetable such as flax seed. In some quarters, green tea is recommended for men over 40 as it is said to help to enhance mental health and help our brain power as well as managing weight. Further to this green tea is good for the heart.

According to the American Heart Association (AHA) three to four servings of lean beef per week is good. This means that as a man you get a high supply of amino acids, as well as zinc which is good for testosterone production (remember testosterone levels start to drop), and there is good iron in beef. Beef is also high in phosphorus, niacin and vitamin B6 and B12. as well as selenium.
