The Benefits of Almonds in Losing Weight
Almonds are among some of the healthiest snacks, but – Do you know why?
Almonds are very rich with healthy fats. They are making us feel less hungry for a long time. Also, they are full of vitamins and minerals, which all together, can help us in losing that bit of excess weight more easily.
How does almonds help losing weight?
Almonds help support and activate the body’s metabolic system. These super fruits are full of minerals, rich in B vitamins, as well as in magnesium, which activate the body and help burn calories. Besides that, there is quite a lot of vitamin E, and that helps the cardiovascular system function much more efficiently.
Almonds act to control the bad cholesterol in the body, but that is not all. The consumption helps in protecting our heart. This is important as we move on our weight loss journey.
Almonds do also boast of quite an impressive nutrient profile. That is – for example, a 1-ounce or 28-gram serving of almond nuts contain:
- Fiber: 3.5 – grams
- Protein: 6 – grams
- Fat: 9 – grams – monounsaturated & 5 – grams saturated
- Vitamin E: 37% of the RDI
- Manganese: 32% of the RDI
- Magnesium: 20% of the RDI
- Copper
- Vitamin B2 or Riboflavin
- Phosphorus.
Additionally there is about 2.5 – grams of digestible carbohydrates.
Eating almonds every day is associated with greater weight loss and higher fat metabolism (Glatter, 2015). Further research from a study from done by Penn State University, participants consumed 1.5 ounces of almonds which is approximately 30-35 almonds per day. In this study that amount is just slightly greater than the current daily recommendation of a 1-ounce serving or about 23 whole almonds.
Placing this into context, it also means that there was some sort of overall lifestyle change. Eating this daily recommended amounts with an unhealthy diet or lifestyle will not be of any help.
