The demand for vegan food increased considerably over the past few years and the statistics are the proof. Deliveroo, one of the food delivery chains across the world, announced that the company witnessed an increase of 117 percent in searches of vegan-specific food. As a result, the delivery chain added vegan food providers to its chain. Deliveroo Hong Kong reported an increase of 160 percent in searches of vegan-specific food.
The numbers in the U.K. showed an increase of 153 percent in the U.K. The delivery platform observed a considerable rise in preference for plant-based food and adoption of meat-free diets.
The search engine giant Google also observed the significant increase in the search volumes for vegan food.
It reported that the search term “vegan food near me” experienced a surge of 5000 percent on the platform in 2021. This term has been categorized as a “breakout search” of the year. Given the surge in preferences, many fast-food, restaurants, and grocery players began addition of more vegan options than before. Many surveys reported the adoption of meat-free food options by consumers. The demand for vegan food is estimated to continue to increase in the coming years.
According to the report published by Allied Market Research, the global vegan food market is estimated to reach $31.4 billion by 2026. Following are some of the activities taking place across the world.
The global fast food chains and restaurants have been adding vegan food options to the menu with their long-standing meat and chicken options.
Burger King, one of the prominent burger chains across the world, added vegan chicken nuggets to its menu. For addition of these nuggets, the burger chain joined hands with Vegetarian Butcher. It also received the Vegan Society certification for selling vegan nuggets at their joints. The company sells these nuggets in nearly 25 countries across the world. The company launched the nuggets in the U.S. in 2021, while the U.K. began tasting them since the beginning of 2022.
Alasdair Murdoch, the Chief Executive Officer of Burger King U.K., highlighted that adapting to customer preferences is a key focus of the fast-food company and it is committed to help their customers make informed decisions about what they eat and drink.
The company has been investing in plant-based alternatives with a mission to make the menu meat-free by 2030. This mission is also a part of its objective to reduce emissions by more than 40 percent.
Fast-food chains have been aligning their menus with customer demands.
Along with burger giants, pizza giants are also raising their stakes in the vegan food market with the launch of vegan options.
Domino’s, the U.S.-based pizza giant, launched vegan pepperoni pizza in the U.K. This pizza is known as PepperoNAY. For introducing this option for pizza lovers in the U.K., the company joined hands with the vegan meat company Vegetarian Butcher.
This has been the first vegan launch for limited time in the U.K.; however, Domino’s already launched vegan cheese and vegan ham in Australia in 2019.
Along with Domino’s, another pizza giant released vegan option for the consumers in the U.K.
Pizza Hut added vegan pizza to its menu. The fast-food giant launched the vegan option with the help of Frank’s RedHot Sauce. This new vegan pizza is known as Vegan Flamin’ Buffalo.
The new offering is toppled with vegan chicken, vegan cheese, and Frank’s buffalo-style sauce. Kathryn Austin, the Chief People and Marketing Officer at Pizza Hut Restaurants, outlined that expansion of its already existing vegan range has been on the mind for some time.
The company aims to offer wide range of vegan choices for its customers.
As consumers began adoption of meat-free options, Pizza Hut tested its new vegan pepperoni manufactured by Beyond Meat in nearly 70 locations in the U.S. With a huge demand for plant-based pepperoni toppings, Pizza Hut and Beyond Meat joined forces to offer their innovative products to consumers. The collaboration activities led many fast-food giants and restaurant chains to align their offerings with consumer demands.
Along with pizza and burgers, there are vegan hot dogs launched by the world’s largest hot dog chain Wienerschnitzel. The plant-based consumers would gain huge options to satiate their appetite and cravings in the next few years.
